Biography
Like the intricate images of a kaleidoscope, Andrew's paintings portray unique visions of colour, shape and motion.
Andrew draws inspiration from the beauty of nature, then assembles fragments of colour to create vibrant landscapes. His background as a graphic illustrator is evident in the composition of his work, which draws the eye to horizontal and vertical patterns not readily apparent in nature. The sense of motion created by these patterns is an integral component of Andrew's portrayal.
Andrew has traveled extensively in North America, venturing to such distant regions as Whitehorse in the Yukon, the Arctic Circle and Greenland. His experiences there and the rugged northern landscapes he encountered made a lasting impression and continue to influence his work.
Prior to settling in Collingwood, Andrew obtained his diploma in Interpretive Illustration from Sheridan College in Oakville, and pursued a successful illustration career in Toronto. In 1999, he turned to painting full time.
Andrew's paintings have been featured in numerous exhibitions, both in Toronto and the Collingwood area. His work appears in several private and corporate collections, including Club Intrawest in both Collingwood and Vancouver. He is a long-time participant in the annual studio tour sponsored by the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts, and has been profiled in several local publications, including Dining and the Arts and Collingwood Life Pictorial.
